The Top 10 Things to Know About Cambodia (in no particular order):

10. The hospitals. While I fortunately didn’t have to visit one, FES Tal did. The advice she got was if you’re well enough to travel, get out of Phnom Penh and get to Bangkok.

9. The Blue Pumpkin. From pastries to gelato to the many forms of caffeine offered, this was our splurge in Cambodia.

8. The buses. They are among the most uncomfortable I’ve experienced on this trip so far.

7. Cooking classes. When I think of Cambodia I don’t necessarily think ‘amazing food’ but the dishes we learned to make were delicious and it was a lot of fun.

6. The Killing Fields. Visiting will change you.

5. The temples. Each one that we visited was so unique to any other we’ve seen and each one incredibly beautiful in its own way.

4. The boat from Battambang to Siem Reap. It was incredible to take the river less travelled and have the opportunity to people watch along the way.

3. The sex trade. Human trafficking is a horrific industry, taking advantage of the poor and the hopeful.

2. The history. It’s nothing short of unbelievable to think that anyone over the age of 32 has survived a genocide that went on unbeknownst to the rest of the world.

1. The reunion. Having the opportunity to visit FES Tal after not having seen her in 6 years and to be able to pick up where we left off was amazing. Friends like that are to be treasured always.
